Nils
Ekman, is a speedy left-wing with plenty of offensive
power! The Swedish right-winger Nils Ekman was
drafted by the Calgary Flames in 1994 but made his NHL
debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning instead. He had
stops in the American Hockey League, the Finnish Elite
League and the International Hockey League before
eventually cracking the Lightning's lineup during the
1999-00 season. In 2000-01, Ekman showed his
superior skills by netting 22 goals in 33 games for the
IHL's Detroit Vipers, along with being selected to play
in the IHL's All-Star game. Despite playing just
33 games, Ekman won the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy
as the IHL's top rookie. In the summer of 2001, the
Lightning traded Ekman and
Kyle Freadrich
to the New York Rangers. In his first full season in
the NHL in 2003-04, Ekman registered 55 points.
