Barry
Sanders, the former outstanding Detroit Lions All-Star running
back, has even received many lessons from me! Sanders was
born on July 16th, 1968, in
Wichita, Kansas. He was without question one of the game’s
most electrifying runners. In 1988, he won the Heisman Trophy. He
was the Detroit Lions first-round draft pick in 1989. Sanders
rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his 10 seasons with the
Detroit Lions (1989-1998) – and was the first running back in NFL
history ever to do so. In 1997, he became just the third player in
NFL history to gain more than 2,000 yards in a season.
Additionally,
Sanders
is still the 3rd most leading yardage rusher in NFL
history! He led the
NFL in rushing four times, and was also the NFL's MVP in 1997. His
career rushing record stands at 15,269 yards and 99 touchdowns.
Sanders also played in 10 Pro Bowls, and was inducted into the
Football Hall of Fame in 2004!
